The Excellence & Innovation HR Award aims to select the best operation or practice carried out in Italy in the labour law world and in HR management, chosen among initiatives and projects that primarily stand out for:
- their ability to promote competitiveness/productivity;
- their ability to avoid and resolve conflicts;
- having a breadth of vision/scope;
The Excellence & Innovation HR Award honours CEOs, General Managers, CFOs, General Counsels, HR Managers and company managers from Italy and further afield working in Italy who have inspired others in their role and/or have been project leaders of the operation nominated for the award.
The first edition, launched in 2018, will consider operations and practices implemented from 1 January 2017 to 31 July 2018. The submission deadline for applications has officially passed, and the Panel is now examining the projects submitted.

How to take part
The deadline to submit your company’s application for the 2018 edition of the Award expired on 3 August.
The Award Panel consists of qualified and knowledgeable experts with the intent of ensuring completely independent judgement with respect to sponsor De Luca & Partners.
Co-founder and advisor of “Forum della Meritocrazia” – Managing Partner of Black Tie Professional
Nicolò Boggian is co-founder and advisor of the “Forum della Meritocrazia”, a non-profit organization created to give value to talent and merit in every aspect of the Italian society. An expert in active employment policies, Public Administration, workplace, youths and personnel selection, he was a member of the “Comitato Legge Biagi” and he has published essays and numerous articles that appeared on information daily newspapers and management magazines. He cooperated with a multitude of businesses in the private and public sector and he is also Managing Partner of Black Tie Professional, a HR and Communication Consulting firm.
People Management & Organization Professor and Deputy Director of the School of Management, at the Politecnico di Milano
Raffaella Cagliano is a tenured professor of People Management & Organization at the School of Management of the Politecnico of Milano. Deputy Director of the Management Engineering Department, she is a member of the Management Committee of the MIP Graduate School of Business and a member of the Faculty Board for the Ph.D in Management Engineering. She has carried out significant research activity on the topics of innovation of paradigms and organizational models, enterprise networks and supply networks, and organization and cooperation for sustainable innovation with a particular focus on the agri-food sector. She has authored numerous books and more than 50 articles, published on international magazines. Many of her articles were awarded for excellence.
PoliS-Lombardia General Manager
Fulvio Matone has been appointed General Manager of PoliS-Lombardia in 2018, an agency created to support the Lombardy Region in the development of policies, after having been director of Arifl – Agenzia Regionale per l’Istruzione, la Formazione e il Lavoro (Regional Agency for Education, Training and Employment) for ten years. A Manager operating in the public sector since the late nineties after a career as a member of the Lombardy Regional Council, he developed professional knowledge in the management of ever more complex agencies and public institutions, accepting the challenge of facing particularly difficult social situations and environments that characterized the last few years of economic and social crises.
ICE Agency Director for the Coordination of Investment Attraction
Stefano Nigro is Director for the Coordination of Foreign Investment Attraction at the ICE Agency. Promotion of investments, sector analyses and investors support all fall under his responsibilities. An expert in internationalization and local marketing, he worked almost ten years for Promos – a Special Company of the Milan Chamber of Commerce – where, in cooperation with the Lombardy Region and the Lombardy Chamber of Commerce Network, he introduced projects such as “Invest in Milan” and “Invest in Lombardy”. He started his career working for BIP, a Top Management Consulting firm. He was editor for several publications dedicated to foreign investments as a tool to create innovation and growth in Italy.
Associate Professor at the faculty of Economics, Università Cattolica of Milan
Federica Poli, for more than twenty years, has been researching and teaching at the Università Cattolica of Milan. Expert in banking and financial systems, she has authored numerous scientific publications on the topic. She is currently Professor of the course “Financial Markets, Credit and Banking”, which is part of the Degree in Management and of the course “Financial Institutions Economics”, which is part of the Degree in Economics and Business Management at the Università Cattolica. In addition, she is First Level Master Director in Economics and International Exchange Management and coordinator of the three-year degree in Service Management.
Co-founder and Director of ETicaNews
Luca Testoni is co-founder and director of ETicaNews, an online newspaper founded at the end of 2011 and created along with a group of colleagues to send a specific message: it is possible to create a different model of journalism, society and business. The commitment of ETicaNews, today a point of reference for responsible economy and finance, is the result of three years of field journalism for the magazine “Finanza e mercati”, for which he was also Chief Editor. Subsequently, he was involved in legal business matters (in the role of director for TopLegal) and editing coordinator for the fashion economy magazine “Pambianconews”. He has published through Sperling & Kupfer a whistleblowing book on the Italian fashion caste (“L’ultima sfilata”) and an investigative essay on Italian law firms (“La legge degli affari”).
Senior Consultant in sustainability and investment management according to ESG
Federico Versace is a senior consultant, expert in sustainability and corporate assessment management models according to ESG (Environmental Social Governance) criteria. He was one of the founders of the first companies dedicated to ESG analyses and services in Italy, Avanzi SRI Research, then acquired by a major European corporation, VigeoEiris, of which he is still a member. He worked for CNH Industrial as Deputy Head of Sustainability. He is co-founder and member of the Governing Council of Make a Change, an association engaged in the active promotion of social business and creator of the award “Il più bel lavoro del mondo” (“The Best Job in the World”) dedicated to innovative start-ups having a social impact, which has now become a trademark of VITA publishing.
CEO of Great Place to Work Institute Italia
Alessandro Zollo is Chief Executive Officer of Great Place to Work Institute Italia, a consulting firm that creates, analyses and awards excellent workplaces. An expert in the management of change, organizational analyses and cultural transformation of businesses, he worked at Accenture and EY and he was senior researcher at the Strategy Institute of the Bocconi University and at the Fondazione Diffusione della Responsabilità Sociale delle Imprese (I-CSR) (Foundation for the Divulgation of the Social Responsibility of Companies).
Award ceremony for the winner of the Excellence & Innovation HR Award
The winner will be announced and will receive the award during a special event for the occasion, whose invitees, along with the short-listed finalist candidates, will be a selection of the most eminent professionals and institutional representatives of the labour law and HR sectors in Italy.
