GOVERNMENT: ELIMINATION OF REINSTATEMENT FOR ECONOMIC REDUNDANCIES (IL SOLE 24 ORE, 7 OCTOBER 2014, P. 2)

The Government aims to eliminate reinstatement for individual economic redundancies, which are no longer in high numbers (18%, according to labour experts), whereas nothing has yet been planned or announced for collective economic redundancies under Law 223/1991, which have been the most frequent types in the recent years of the crisis (estimated to be 60% of the total). In the opinion of the experts, it is essential that replacing reinstatement with compensation be extended to the latter type as well, also in order to prevent companies from deciding to make multiple individual redundancies instead of launching the legal procedure for collective redundancies, including subject to pervasive preventive control by the union.
