A complex web, difficult to untangle\u2014especially from a strictly legal standpoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent events have also brought the topic of workplace relationships to the forefront of public debate. Consider, for example, the so-called <em>\u201cColdplayGate\u201d<\/em> case, where the kiss cam spotlight made viral the relationship (and alleged infidelity) of the then-CEO of Astronomer and the company\u2019s HR manager. Or, more recently, the case of the now former CEO of Nestl\u00e9, who was dismissed by the company\u2019s management for engaging in an \u201cundisclosed relationship\u201d with an employee, in breach of the corporate code of conduct and the group\u2019s internal guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"20196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.delucapartners.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/shutterstock_1060957841-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20196\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In any case, the point is clear: employment law and case law do not sanction personal feelings; rather, they aim to safeguard corporate organization, the principle of non-discrimination (between employees treated differently for relational reasons), and managerial transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, a dismissal based solely on the mere existence of a romantic relationship between colleagues, or on its non-disclosure, would in all likelihood be deemed unlawful as a violation of the employee\u2019s right to privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, dismissal may be considered legitimate if the employer can demonstrate that such a relationship has concretely and objectively created a conflict of interest or resulted in a breach of the duties of loyalty, fairness, and diligence, thereby irreparably undermining the bond of trust.
