THE REFORM OF FIXED-TERM CONTRACTS IS NOW LAW

The reform also introduces a new discipline to simplify and promote apprenticeship contracts.
The Parliament has just approved Decree Law 34/2014  implementing a substantial reform of the discipline of short term contracts in Italy.
The reform falls within the Government’s project aiming at introducing more flexibility in the labour market.
In brief, fixed-term (and staff leasing) contracts no longer need to be based on a specific reason (e.g. season peacks) and may now be started at will.
Fixed-term contracts may now be renewed up to 5 times for an overall maximum duration of 36 months.
Fixed-term contracts may not exceed  20% of the workforce.
The reform also introduces a new discipline to simplify and promote apprenticeship contracts.
