Cautious, yet moving forward (Business People, 13 luglio 2026 – Vittorio De Luca)

In Business People, our Managing Partner, Vittorio De Luca, discusses a business landscape that is cautious, yet far from standing still—one that is rethinking processes, skills, and management models to tackle today’s challenges and build tomorrow’s competitiveness.

Below are the key questions that emerged from the interview.

What are the main priorities you’re seeing?

Companies are navigating a period of rapid transformation.

One of the most pressing issues is pay transparency. Many organizations are realizing that they will need to review their compensation policies, job structures, and the criteria used to assign roles and responsibilities.

At the same time, the growing adoption of AI and other emerging technologies is prompting continuous reflection on how work is organized. The question is no longer whether to use these tools, but how to integrate them in a way that enhances performance without creating imbalances within the organization.

Are Italian pmi currently in a phase of growth, consolidation, or uncertainty?

The picture is a mixed one. While some sectors and businesses are experiencing growth, others are focused on consolidation or navigating a period of uncertainty.

Overall, many Italian SMEs continue to demonstrate a strong ability to adapt, despite an unstable economic and geopolitical environment. Based on our conversations with colleagues in other jurisdictions, we have the impression that Italy’s business community is proving more resilient than those of several other countries. There is certainly a sense of caution, but we do not see inertia.
